In Memory Of..

My Aunt has been doing some projects lately in memory of people that have passed.  This last project was to make some pillows out of ties from a co-worker who passed.

Found a great idea on pinterest...
http://www.designsponge.com/2010/12/diy-project-vintage-postcard-calendar-journal.html

So I decided to make it.  For now, I'm just posting pics, will post more details as I have time.  I used Vera Bradley napkins to cover a wooden box & it came out fantastic!

Katie's Quiet Book (by Aunt Kas)

This is a quiet book made by my Aunt Kas for Katie.  I don't have instuctions to post, but perhaps you can get some ideas from the pages.

Here's the cover.  The picture & title are printed on printable fabric.  You can't see in the picture, but the whole cover is covered with a hard plastic cover (which is great for teething babies!)

Here's the first page.  On the right is a preprinted label written on with a fabric marker.  On the right is the doghouse page.  The dog house is made from two pieces of fabric fused together.

The dogs were made by fusing velcro to craft weight interfacing and then fusing a printed picture (printed treasures, for example) of a dog to that & cutting it out.  Behind the dog is another piece of velcro so the dog can be removed & put back.

And under the dog house is another dog made the same way!

The next page is a lady bug inspired by http://thecraftingchicks.com/2009/09/tiffanys-quiet-book.html

With a picture hidden inside

This page started out being inspired by this page http://shannonmakesstuff.blogspot.com/2010/07/quiet-book-page-fishing-with-peter.html

But then the fishing men in her life were added into the picture (see, Daddy is holding the baby).  The men, fish & cooler were all printed on printable fabric.
The hook has velcro on the back & the fish all have velcro on the top, so you can catch the fish.  Of course, they are tethered down with ribbon so you don't lose them!

These flowers were inspired by this pin http://pinterest.com/pin/267964246548264935/ but were made with the printable fabric & real flower pictures.  You can unbutton the flowers as well.

This chick in the egg started as an idea from here: http://thecraftingchicks.com/2011/01/beths-adorable-felt-book-for-baby.html

And then a page to practice lacing!  Then "they lived happily ever after"

The back cover has another beloved doggie.

Also - here is a pig made of paper mache & then cover with scraps of fabric.  The feet, nose & ears were all made from egg crates.
